Virginia Business and Virginia Lawyers Weekly recognize attorneys for professional accomplishments, community service, and mentorship
Virginia Beach, Va. - Virginia Business and Virginia Lawyers Weekly have named Melissa Moffa, chief risk officer and general counsel for Chartway Credit Union, a 2026 In-House Counsel Awards honoree. She is one of 31 attorneys from across Virginia selected for this year's recognition.
The In-House Counsel Awards recognize attorneys who navigate complex negotiations, represent their organizations in high-stakes litigation, protect important organizational assets, and serve as leaders in Virginia's in-house legal community. Honorees are selected by an internal committee based on documented professional accomplishments, community service, and mentorship.
"At Chartway, our legal, risk, and compliance work is ultimately about protecting our members, supporting our team, and helping the credit union deliver on its purpose," said Moffa. "I am honored to receive this recognition alongside so many accomplished legal professionals in Virginia. It reflects the collaboration and shared commitment of the teams I have the privilege to lead."
As Chartway's chief risk officer and general counsel, Moffa oversees the credit union's legal, compliance, enterprise risk management, BSA/AML, fraud, collections, information security, corporate real estate, and facilities teams. She also leads commercial lending risk oversight and due diligence efforts that support Chartway's continued growth and strategic initiatives.
"Melissa brings an exceptional combination of legal expertise and strategic perspective to Chartway," said Brian Schools, president and CEO of Chartway Credit Union. "Her work helps us thoughtfully manage risk while continuing to evolve in ways that serve our members and strengthen our organization. This recognition is well-deserved, and we are proud to see Melissa honored among Virginia's leading in-house attorneys."
This recognition follows Moffa's selection as a 2025 Virginia Business Forty Under 40 honoree. She was in the inaugural class of the program which recognizes emerging business leaders based on their professional accomplishments, community service, and commitment to inspiring change.
