What Does Chartway Federal Credit Union Do With Your Personal Information?

Why?

Financial companies choose how they share your personal information. Federal law gives consumers the right to limit some but not all sharing. Federal law also requires us to tell you how we collect, share, and protect your personal information. Please read this notice carefully to understand what we do.

What?

The types of personal information we collect and share depend on the product or service you have with us. This information can include:

  • Social Security number and account balances
  • account transactions and checking account information
  • income and payment history

When you are no longer our member, we continue to share your information as described in this notice.

How?

All financial companies need to share members’ personal information to run their everyday business. In the section below, we list the reasons financial companies can share their members’ personal information; the reasons Chartway Federal Credit Union chooses to share; and whether you can limit this sharing.

How does Chartway Federal Credit Union protect my personal information?

To protect your personal information from unauthorized access and use, we use security measures that comply with federal law. These measures include computer safeguards and secured files and buildings.

How does Chartway Federal Credit Union collect my personal information?

We collect your personal information, for example, when you

  • open an account or deposit money
  • pay your bills or use your credit or debit card
  • apply for financing

We also collect your personal information from others, such as credit bureaus, affiliates, or other companies.

Why can’t I limit all sharing?

Federal law gives you the right to limit only

  • sharing for affiliates’ everyday business purposes – information about your creditworthiness
  • affiliates from using your information to market to you
  • sharing for nonaffiliates to market to you

State law and individual companies may give you additional rights to limit sharing.

Definitions

Affiliates

Companies related by common ownership or control. They can be financial and nonfinancial companies.
• Our affiliates include companies with a Chartway name such as Chartway Promise Foundation and Chartway Ventures LLC; and other entities.

Nonaffiliates

Companies not related by common ownership or control. They can be financial and nonfinancial companies.
Chartway Federal Credit Union does not share with our nonaffiliates so they can market to you.

Joint Marketing

A formal agreement between nonaffiliated financial companies that together market financial products or services to you.
Our joint marketing partners include investment and insurance companies.

Cookies, Browser Information and Related Issues 

When you visit the Site, the Service Provider may receive certain standard information that your browser sends to every website you visit, such as the originating IP address, browser type and language, access times and referring website addresses, and other information. This data may be used, among other uses, to improve the operation of the Site and to improve the security of the Site and Service by assisting in “authenticating” who you are when you access the Site or Service, particularly if you register for the Service and are issued or create a username and password.  

The Service Provider may also receive additional information about your visit to the Site, including the pages you view, the links you click and other actions you take in connection with the Site and the Service. This data may be used, among other uses, to improve the operation of the Site and the Service.  

Like most websites, the Site also uses “cookies,” which are small data files placed on your computer or other device by the web server when you visit the Site. Most such cookies are “session” cookies that are only used for a specific period during which you are on the Site, but a few are “persistent” cookies that stay on your hard drive and are read by the web server when you return to the Site (unless you erase them). The Site uses cookies to store your preferences and other information on your computer in order to save you time by eliminating the need to repeatedly enter the same information and to display your personalized content on your later visits to the Site. These cookies are linked to personal information about you, such as your email address. You may encounter the Service Provider’s cookies or pixel tags on websites that we do not control. For example, if you view a web page created by a third party or use an application developed by a third party, there may be a cookie or pixel tag placed by the web page or application.  

Access to Information about You  

You may review and update the personal information maintained about you in the “Manage Account” section of the Site at any time to ensure that it is accurate. Once you close your Accounts with Chartway or you no longer have a Chartway debit card, you may no longer send Transfers. However, your Account information will be retained by Chartway for a retention period to accommodate any residual issues that may arise.  

Amendments - Chartway may amend these Terms of Use or any other disclosures at any time by posting a revised version on the Site. The revised version will be effective immediately at the time it is posted, unless a delayed effective date is expressly stated therein. Chartway may also provide you with an email notification of such amendments. Chartway may require you to affirmatively acknowledge or accept the revised Terms of Use to continue using the Service. Any use of the Service after a notice of change (whether by Site posting, email, or express acknowledgment or acceptance) will constitute your express agreement to such changes. 

Confidentiality and Disclosure of Personal Information 

Chartway may disclose certain information to third parties about your account or the transactions you conduct in the following circumstances: e. To complete the transaction. f. To verify the existence and condition of an account for a third party (i.e., a credit bureau or merchant). g. To comply with a state, local or federal government agency, mandate or court order. h. With your written permission. i. In New Jersey, in our sole discretion, as permitted by applicable New Jersey law that provides for the release of account information pertaining to actual or suspected illegal activities. Security Features 

Data Encryption 

For your protection, we use 256-bit Transport Layer Security strong encryption during your online sessions. Encryption is a sophisticated way of scrambling all information transmitted online before it leaves your computer so that all information, including passwords and online bill payments, are completely unreadable by unauthorized third  

Multi-Factor Authentication 

To further safeguard your account information against unauthorized access, the software employs a multi-factor authentication scheme. The scheme includes images, passwords and security questions. It prevents an unauthorized user from accidentally or deliberately determining your session ID while you are online and executing transactions against your account. 

Remote Deposit Capture 

Definition-“Image Item” or “Image Items” mean digitized image(s) of Check(s) that are created by you and transmitted to Chartway. 

Once approved for the Services, you may use the Services to deposit Checks into your Account(s) with Chartway, subject to the terms of this Agreement. Use of the Services is subject to transaction limitations and the Funds Availability Disclosure, as set forth in the Membership Applications and Truth-In-Savings schedule, which govern the use of Your Account.  

Security-Data transmitted via the Services is encrypted in an effort to provide transmission security. Notwithstanding our efforts to ensure the Services are secure, you acknowledge that the internet is inherently insecure and that all data transfers, including electronic mail, occur openly on the internet and potentially can be monitored and read by others. You agree to notify us immediately if you believe any passwords have been lost, stolen or used without your permission. 

Access-To access and use Remote Deposit Services, you must have a compatible mobile device and access to telecommunication services.  

Indemnity-Except as otherwise provided by the law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Chartway, its officers, directors and employees, from and against any loss, damages, costs, claims, actions, fees, penalties or expenses caused by, related to and associated with any person who accesses, or has apparent authority to access, the Services 

Children's Online Privacy Protection Act  

The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) was passed to give parents increased control over what information is collected from their children online and how such information is used. While Chartway Federal Credit Union may provide educational resources, the online financial services offered through the website are not designed for or directed toward children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly solicit or collect personally identifiable information (name, address, email, account number, telephone, social security number) from children under 13 without parental or guardian consent.
