Chartway is dedicated to strengthening the communities we serve through events, sponsorships, and other programs, including:
These activities are complemented by partnerships with local chamber groups, legislative efforts, and trade associations, which allow us to advocate for issues impacting our communities.
As Chartway Federal Credit Union’s charitable arm, We Promise strengthens the communities we serve by partnering with companion charities, sponsors, and contributors to provide the financial support needed to make dreams and wishes come to life for children facing medical challenges.
The foundation was launched in 2005 based on the enduring success of Chartway’s charitable events. Since 1999, Chartway and We Promise Foundation have raised over $10 million to help thousands of children through our partnerships with numerous chapters of The Make-A-Wish Foundation, St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children, Families of Autistic Children in Tidewater, Toby’s Dream Foundation, Roc Solid Foundation, Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters and other charitable children’s groups who share our passion and mission to make a difference.
See how you can help us provide life-changing experiences that bring joy, hope, and smiles to children facing medical hardship or illness.
The We Promise Foundation raised $715,000 during its 12th Annual Diamonds in the Sky Gala and 19th Annual Charity Golf Classic (2017) to provide life-changing experiences that bring joy, hope, and smiles to children facing medical hardship or illness.More about the Events
Our Community Action Response (CARE) Team is led by credit union employees. The CARE Team supports many charitable events, including hosting the following events each year:
The CARE Team also manages the We Serve Reserve, a fund to assist co-workers during times of crisis. Each year, we host many fundraisers to raise funds to support fellow co-workers in need.
Chartway is proud to award $3,000 in scholarships, totaling $24,000 in academic aid, to eight student members.
For 28 years the credit union’s Directors’ Memorial Scholarship program has annually awarded scholarships to deserving student members pursuing graduate or undergraduate degrees. The Director’s Memorial Scholarship program was created in 1989 by Chartway board members in recognition of the credit union’s success. Since its inception, the credit union has awarded more than $200,000 in student scholarships to its members.
The 2017 recipients include four students from Virginia, three from Utah, and one student from Maryland:
Recipients were selected on the basis of need, activities, academic performance, an essay, and a letter of reference.
