Chartway’s Charitable Arm Hosts 22nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament & Yellow Ribbon Fundraiser Held in Honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Virginia Beach, VA (October 28, 2021) – With a goal to make dreams and wishes come to life for children facing medical hardship or illness, Chartway’s charitable arm – the We Promise Foundation – recently welcomed supporters to tee up for its 22nd Annual Charity Golf Classic. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and supporters, the event raised more than $275,000 for children.

The tournament took place at Broad Bay Country Club in Virginia Beach, VA. Golfers, guests, and volunteers were joined by several We Promise heroes – children served by this organization, who had the opportunity to cruise around the course in golf carts – learning from players how to hold an iron and sink a putt.

“Every day, families in our communities learn that their child’s headache is in fact a tumor, or that what they thought might be growing pains is actually osteosarcoma. That’s where Chartway’s We Promise Foundation comes in,” said Karen Lane, the executive director of Chartway’s We Promise Foundation. “We bring joy, hope, and smiles to the lives of children and their families when they need it the most. We’re so thankful to those who participated in the event by golfing, volunteering, or donating online – together, our supporters gave our kid heroes a reason to smile and the strength to keep fighting.”

Additionally, Chartway’s We Promise Foundation hosted a Yellow Ribbon Fundraiser throughout the month of September in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Supporters had the opportunity to purchase a yellow paper ribbon for $1 in Chartway’s branches, over the phone, and online. The ribbons were then displayed on the walls of Chartway’s branches and offices. Altogether, this fundraiser raised more than $3,000 and helped raise awareness of this special month.

Chartway also supports its communities by sponsoring events and programs, serving on a wide range of industry and trade association committees, partnering with local chamber groups, leading legislative efforts to advocate for financial issues, and providing charitable grants through its We Promise Foundation, which has raised more than $12 million to provide the financial support needed to make dreams and wishes come to life for children facing medical challenges.

“At Chartway, we’re dedicated to unlocking the potential of individuals and families so they can thrive – and a commitment to the communities we serve is such a vital part of that,” said Brian Schools, president and CEO. “Whether supporting children with medical hardships through our charitable arm, the We Promise Foundation, providing support during times of crisis, offering financial education and wellness programs, or helping tomorrow’s leaders gain a strong academic foundation, we’re so proud to contribute. It’s who we are.”
