Virginia Beach, VA (July 4, 2022) – During this evening’s 4 th of July Celebration at Mount Trashmore, Chartway’s president & CEO, Brian Schools, presented CHKD’s director of philanthropy & donor relations, Katie Fletcher, with a $500,000 donation from the Chartway Promise Foundation for its new mental health hospital for children.

Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters is currently constructing a pediatric mental health hospital and outpatient center to address the mental health needs of children in our region. When it opens later this year, the new facility will stand out among the nation's top pediatric mental health hospitals for its thoughtful patient and family-centered design, evidence-based treatments, academic training program, and clinical research to guide innovation.

The funds donated by the Chartway Promise Foundation will be used to support CHKD’s mission with the development of an art therapy center that allows therapists to work with children by providing opportunities for creative expression. Jim Dahling, CHKD’s president & CEO, said “it’s partners like Chartway and its charitable arm, the Chartway Promise Foundation, that allow us to provide world-class medical and mental health care to children and support to their families. We’re thankful for their significant contribution.”

Chartway’s community commitment runs deep – it’s part of a promise to help individuals and families thrive. “That’s why Chartway is proud to be the presenting sponsor for tonight’s July 4 th celebration and also why we raise funds through our Chartway Promise Foundation to support organizations like CHKD,” said Schools. “The Chartway Promise Foundation’s mission to provide life-changing experiences that bring joy, hope, and smiles to children facing medical hardship or illness is best realized through
partnerships like this with CHKD.”

Since 1999, the Chartway Promise Foundation has raised more than $13 million to provide the financial support needed to make dreams and wishes come to life for children facing medical challenges. In addition to the Chartway Promise Foundation, Chartway supports its communities through its Directors’ Memorial Scholarship that has awarded nearly $380,000 to student members pursuing collegiate studies. It also awards $25,000 annually through its Old Dominion University Athletic Scholarship fund, leads a
