Virginia Beach, VA (Nov. 20, 2018) – At Chartway Federal Credit Union, strengthening the communities it serves has always been core to its culture. That’s why Chartway proudly served as the Title Sponsor for J&A Racing’s Norfolk Harbor Half Marathon and We Promise Foundation 5K race weekend November 16-18, 2018. The credit union’s charitable arm, the We Promise Foundation, also served as premier charity of the event — receiving a $1 donation per registration from the J&A Racing Foundation.

The weekend kicked-off with a Sports & Fitness Expo where participants retrieved their race packet and had the opportunity to obtain fitness-related information and giveaways. This was followed by the We Promise Foundation 5K where runners were welcomed by Phil Richards, We Promise Foundation president and community involvement executive; Karen Lane, the executive director of the We Promise Foundation; and, We Promise hero Victorria. The J&A Racing Foundation also presented the We Promise Foundation with a donation of $5,000. Finally, the Chartway Norfolk Harbor Half Marathon and post-race party concluded the weekend.

Both the half marathon and 5K were sold-out at over 2,300 runners each — a first for the annual race weekend.

“At Chartway, we are dedicated to investing in activities that strengthen the communities we serve,” said Brian Schools, president & CEO of Chartway Federal Credit Union. “That's why we were honored to support this year’s runners, and to give them the opportunity to learn more about the ways Chartway can help them make strong strides in their financial journey.”

“We are so grateful for our partnership with Chartway and its We Promise Foundation. We have enjoyed creating a great relationship with the Chartway team over the last few years, and look forward to working with them for the years to come to create a wonderful event,” said J&A Racing co-owner and race director, Amy Frostick. “The We Promise Foundation 5K is a great way to bring awareness to the community about this wonderful foundation, and all of the amazing things that they do for children in Hampton Roads and beyond.”
