Chartway Credit Union and its charitable arm, the Chartway Promise Foundation, have raised $300,000 to support medically fragile children through various September events, surpassing their $250,000 goal. With this momentum, the foundation is on track to exceed $1 million in fundraising for 2024.
The funds, raised during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, will benefit more than twenty charity partners, providing life-changing experiences for children in Chartway's Virginia, Texas, and Utah markets.
“Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a time for us to come together as a community to uplift these brave children,” said Christine Wilson, president of the Chartway Promise Foundation. “From fulfilling life-changing wishes to creating experiences that bring smiles, every act of kindness this month has fueled our mission to spread hope to our Promise Heroes.”
Among the highlights were two key events: the “Swings Fore Smiles” golf tournament on September 30 and the “Night for Hope: Bubbles & Bourbon” fundraiser on October 4. Both events celebrated children whose wishes were granted through partnerships with charities like Toby’s Dream Foundation and Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia.
At the golf tournament, nine-year-old Zoe, a kidney cancer survivor, was surprised with a Disney World trip for her family. Similarly, at “Night for Hope,” 13-year-old Angelina Janson, a liver transplant recipient, learned she would visit the Aulani Disney Resort in Hawaii, fulfilling her dream of meeting characters from her favorite movie *Stitch*.
Chartway’s president and CEO, Brian Schools, emphasized the importance of bringing joy to children during their toughest battles. “Through the incredible work of the Chartway Promise Foundation and our generous partners, we’re able to make a real difference in the lives of children and families who need it most.”
In total, the foundation fulfilled the wishes of seven children this year, known as "Promise Heroes," and participated in numerous community events, ranging from playset builds to VIP experiences at the Utah State Fair.
As the foundation continues its mission, it aims to provide even more medically fragile children with unforgettable moments, thanks to the continued generosity of its donors and partners.
