Virginia Beach, VA (October 28, 2016) – Surrounded by the sound of applause, a handful of shovel-wielding supporters recently broke ground at the site of a new, modern, full-service branch being built by the area’s largest credit union: Chartway Federal Credit Union.

Conveniently located on the corner of Newtown Road and Kempsville, Chartway combined research, expertise in design, and member feedback to develop a contemporary space that will allow members to choose from a variety of self-, assisted-, and full-service options.

"The way consumers are banking has changed significantly," said Brian Schools, president and CEO of Chartway. "What we’ve found is that members want access to the people and the professional guidance they need and the technology that supports their on-the-go lifestyles. That's why we are excited to offer a personalized experienced where members can interact with our employees and our technology on their terms."

The 5,020 square foot branch, which will replace the current location across the street at 160 Newtown Road, will feature an inviting, open-concept floor plan. Interactive, self-service options where members can check their account balances and transfer funds using their own device or ones provided by the credit union will be complemented by spaces where employees can show members how to use their mobile and online banking platforms.

Staples of the existing Newtown branch, including a full-service teller line, drive-thru tellers, deposit account services, consumer lending, mortgage lending, safe deposit boxes, a 24-hour drive-thru ATM, a night depository, and comfortable, private offices where members can discuss their personal financial needs, will remain intact at the new location.

A Spring 2017 construction completion date is anticipated for the new branch that will be located at 132 Kempsville Road in Norfolk, Virginia.

Chartway FCU, widely admired as one of the strongest credit unions in the country, has $2 billion in assets and 51 locations across the country.
