Virginia Beach, VA (Nov. 13, 2017) – In observance of this year’s National Philanthropy Day, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Hampton Roads Chapter, celebrated philanthropy in Hampton Roads by honoring the region’s individuals, nonprofits, volunteers, businesses, and fundraising professionals whose philanthropic strengthen the community. Altogether, six organizations were recognized – including Chartway Federal Credit Union’s We Promise Foundation, which was named the “Outstanding Foundation / Corporation” during its 2017 award program.

The We Promise Foundation received the award in recognition of the life-changing experiences the foundation provides that bring joy, hope, and smiles to children facing medical hardship or illness. Well-known for its annual Diamonds in the Sky gala, annual Charity Golf Classic, ongoing Quarters for Kids program, and much more, the foundation has raised more than $9,000,000 since 1999.

“We’re humbled and honored to accept this recognition for the work we do on behalf of children facing medical challenges throughout our communities,” said Karen Lane, executive director of the We Promise Foundation. “Of course, none of this would be possible without our companion charities, sponsors, and contributors – along with the help of our indispensable volunteers. This award is really about them, as well.”

We Promise Foundation was one of several other honorees that were recognized at this year's 32nd annual National Philanthropy Day Awards luncheon, which took place on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017, at the Norfolk Hilton, The Main in downtown Norfolk, VA.  More than 500 senior business executives, philanthropists, professional fundraisers, volunteers, and community leaders from throughout the region were in attendance.

“This National Philanthropy Day award honors a foundation or corporation that demonstrates outstanding commitment through financial support, through encouragement and motivation of others to take leadership roles toward philanthropy and community involvement,” said Nicole M. Pellegrino, Norfolk Collegiate school financial development and National Philanthropy Day chair of the Hampton Roads chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
