Personal Info Tab

Based on information you provide in this tab, the planner calculates your life expectancy and the number of years until your retirement.

  Gender

This information is used with the standard life expectancy tables, which predict a lower life expectancy for men.

  Life Expectancy

Choose either standard simplified actuarial tables or enter your own life expectancy estimate.

  Current Age

Based on your current age and the age at which you wish to retire, the planner will calculate how much time is available for you to invest before you will start withdrawing your retirement savings.

  Retirement Age

This is the age at which you wish to retire. Your retirement age, along with your current age, determines how much investment time you have available. The retirement age and the life expectancy determine how long your investments must last.

Retirement Needs Tab

Based on information you've provided, the planner calculates how your retirement contributions will grow until the actual start time of your retirement. The information you provide in this tab is used by the planner to calculate whether your pre-retirement contributions will cover your expenses during your retirement.

  Inflation

The inflation is used to normalize income growth during the period before retirement. Inflation and income growth are considered when computing your retirement savings.

  Income Growth

Your anticipated income growth is used to normalize retirement savings growth during the period before retirement. Inflation and income growth are considered when computing your retirement savings.

  Tax Rate

Your tax rate will be used to determine the taxable savings portion of your retirement savings.

Current Income

Along with the income growth and the retirement needs values, this will determine what your expenses are likely to be during retirement.

  Retirement Needs

The percentage of your pre-retirement income that you estimate you will need during retirement. Conservative retirement plans will use 100% of your pre-retirement income, thereby making you save more towards retirement.

  Retirement Expenses

This computed value indicates the expenses you will need during retirement, based on your current income and your expected needs at retirement. The planner shows the expected retirement income in today's dollars since inflation makes it hard to visualize the income from a time in the future.
