Volunteer

This page offers insight and information into how to become a volunteer at Chartway. Our volunteers are offered the opportunity to learn, grow, and progress through a variety of committees and assignments.

We encourage you to view the following information to see if you have the determination and desire to become an integral part of our growth and success.


The three levels of volunteerism are identified as follows:

Level I - Serves as member or associate member on one of the following committees:

  • Membership Growth
  • New Services
  • Pension Investment
  • Scholarship
  • Special Activities

Level II - Serves as member or associate member on one of the following committees:

  • ALM
  • Legislative/Regulatory
  • Human Resource
  • Supervisory

Level III - Serve as member of the Board upon election by membership

  • All volunteers are encouraged to complete the following National Credit Union Institute courses:
    Volunteer Achievement Program (VAP)
    Volunteer Leadership Program (VLP)
  • Awards (Pin and Certificates) available after completing related VAP and VLP courses:
    • VLP Award
    • Basic VAP Award
    • Edward A. Filene Award
    • Friedrich W. Raiffeisen Award
    • Roy F. Bergengren Award
    • Technology Award, and more!

Volunteers are encouraged to attend Chapter Meetings and related professional growth educational conferences. Commitment time ranges from approximately 4 to 24 hours per month.

 

Volunteer Committees

Asset/Liability Committee - Implements investment policies, evaluates investment alternatives, and recommends financial management strategies to the Board.

Human Resources Committee - Evaluates policies, job descriptions, compensation, and other personnel matters.

Legislative/Regulatory Committee - Coordinates and/or prepares the comments for the credit union on all proposed legislation and regulations.

Membership Growth Committee - Acts upon the requests for membership from businesses that desire becoming a part of Chartway's Field of Membership and forwards these requests to NCUA for approval.

New Services Committee - Evaluates and recommends new products and services and new branch and ATM locations for membership. Recommends product enhancements and features according to our members' needs.

Scholarship Committee - Administers the Directors' Memorial Scholarship program and selects award recipients.

Special Activities Committee - Arranges and assists in the preparation of credit union functions, including the Annual Meeting, retirements, picnics, Christmas party, etc.

Supervisory Committee - Examines and evaluates the adequacy and effectiveness of internal control and the quality of performance in carrying out assigned responsibilities.

Technology Committee - Researches and identifies new technological products and services.

Volunteer Recruitment & Development Committee - Develops plans and assists with the recruitment and development of volunteers and their retention.

How to Become a Volunteer

Chartway would never have been able to grow without the support of our loyal members, the leadership of our senior management and Board of Directors, and the participation of our volunteers.
