Chartway is pleased to announce that CAPT (Ret.) George Emery Sauer III has been appointed to its Board of Directors. Sauer will be filling the vacant seat of former Board member Mr. Jim Sibley, who passed away in September.

CAPT (Ret.) Sauer began his service to Chartway in 1987 as the Military Liaison Officer. His tenure as a volunteer expanded in 1991 with his three-year appointment to the Supervisory Committee. He is a current member of both the New Services Committee and the Directors’ Memorial Scholarship Committee, for which he has been the Vice Chairman since 2006.

Sauer graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis with a BS degree in Naval Science and Mathematics. He then went on to earn his MSA from George Washington University. Sauer’s subsequent military career revolved around financial management, as he worked as the Business Manager for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, was also Supply Officer of an Aircraft Carrier, Director of Accounting at a Navy inventory control point, and Executive Officer of a Naval Ship.

Outside the military, Sauer has been the Operations Officer of two retail companies. He has been a volunteer for the Princess Anne High School Choral Department since 1996, and has been an adjunct Business professor at Tidewater Community College.

Chartway is confident that CAPT (Ret.) Sauer has a great deal to contribute in this leadership position. In Sauer’s words, “I share the philosophy of ‘People Helping People’ and embrace the service that Chartway provides to its members.”
