In 1959, seven civilian workers at the Norfolk Naval Air Station invested $5 each and chartered a federal credit union. More than 50 years later, their inspiration has helped us become one of the largest credit unions in the country. Chartway is a not-for-profit, member-owned financial institution – a cooperative association where every person is an owner and profits are returned to its members.

Our corporate philosophy is based on two guiding principles: to do whatever it takes to help every member reach his or her goals and dreams and to help enrich and assist our hometown communities in times of both prosperity and need. These principles drive our actions and make our mission of bringing people together to enhance their quality of life attainable.
